WALKING TO MERLION!

Finally I knew the Merlion. It is an icon here, the unique Singaporean thing, a mix of lion and fish… but unfortunately I don’t know the history… Since the first day when I arrived here, Coni told me about Merlion. Yesterday I was very near the statue, but I didn’t found it.

Finalmente conocí el Merlion. Es un ícono acá, la única cosa singapurense, una mezcla de león y pez… pero desafortunadamente no conozco la historia… Desde el primer día cuando llegué, la Coni me habló del Merlion. Ayer estuve super cerca de la estatua, pero no la encontré.

Today we (Dani & me) walked whole the day… we left the ambassador house at 12.00 and we came back at 6.30. We went to Little India, where we were inside the temple and even we received some fruits. Of course, we didn’t eat that, smelled very badly! When nobody looked we put that in a bag… please don’t say that to Indian people.

Hoy con la Dani caminamos todo el día… salimos de la casa del embajador a las 12.00 y volvimos a las 6.30. Fuimos a Little India, donde estuvimos dentro del templo e incluso recibimos algunas frutas. Por supuesto, no las comimos, olían muy mal! Cuando nadie miraba las metimos dentro de una bolsa… por favor no le cuenten a un indio.

Later we walked to Kampung Glam (Arabic town) took some pictures and began to walk to the centre. We had lunch and then continued walking. The problem was that I lost the orientation sense and walked in the wrong way…. When we discovered my mistake took the right way, good exercise!!! Moreover the day was very hot… we needed to drink a lot of water and juice.

Más tarde fuimos a Kampung Glam (el barrio árabe) sacamos algunas fotos y empezamos a caminar al centro. Almorzamos y seguimos caminando. El problema fue que perdí el sentido de la orientación y caminamos en la dirección equivocada… cuando descubrimos mi error tomamos el camino correcto, buen ejercicio!!! Más encima que el día estaba super caluroso… necesitamos tomar mucho agua y jugo.

But the day finished excellent, because we found the famous Merlion!!! which is next to the theater Esplanade.

Pero el día terminó excelente, porque encontramos el famoso Merlion!!! El cual está al lado del teatro Esplanade.

DANI @ SINGAPORE TOO

Tonight Dani arrived at Singapore. I have a room mate again! I am very happy. Tomorrow we will go round the city and soon we will go to Malaysia.

Hoy la Dani llegó a Singapur. Tengo compañera de pieza de nuevo! Estoy muy feliz. Mañana recorreremos la cuidad y pronto no vamos a Malasia.

BAD FOOT!

All my life I have had bad coordination, but it was too much! My leg was numb and I didn’t feel it, so I stand up when Coni arrived, I twisted my ankle and fell down.
It was hurt, so Coni found me lying in the floor, completely pale. She didn’t understand anything!

Toda mi vida he tenido mala coordinación, pero esto fue demasiado! Tenía la pierna dormida y no la sentía, así es que cuando la Coni llegó me paré, se me torció y me caí. Me dolía, así es que la Coni me encontró en el suelo, completamente pálida. No entendía nada!

Then I began to laugh and later I could explain what was happened. We put it ice and some cream. Next day doesn’t hurt, but looked very inflame, I didn’t have ankle!!! We finished at the Hospital, but everything is OK. The doctor examined my ankle and gave me a bandage, in one week might be right. Berni, the health insurance worked perfect, I didn’t pay anything! Thank you… Today it is very good, maybe tomorrow will be perfect!

Después me empecé a reir y luego pude explicarle lo que había pasado. Le pusimos hielo y crema. Al día siguiente no me dolía, pero estaba super inflamado (pata de empanada en mala) no tenía tobillo!!! Terminamos en el hospital, pero todo está OK. El doctor examinó mi tobillo y me dio una venda, en una semana debiera estar bien. Berni, el seguro de salud funcionó perfecto, no pagué nada! Gracias… Hoy está muy bien, quizás mañana estará perfecto!

In summary the weekend was spectacular, the ambassador (auntie Graciela) is the best and of course Coni too. My Singaporean family!!! We ate delicious food, swam in the pool, go round the city, which have beautiful places! I loved this city-country!

En resumen el fin de semana estuvo espectacular, la embajadora (tía Graciela) es lo mejor y por supuesto también la Coni. Mi familia singapurense!!! (aunque yo digo singapita). Comimos comida exquisita, nadamos en la piscina, recorrimos la ciudad, la cual tiene lugares preciosos! Adoro está ciudad-país!

Probably nobody knows that yesterday I went to Jakarta. The city is big, dirty and poor. Really I don’t like it, but the real problem was the night. Thanks the blueberries brownie I almost don’t sleep! I almost dehydrated. So I was less than 24 hours there, I am in Singapore again and everything is OK ;)

Probablemente nadie sabe que ayer fui a Yakarta. La ciudad es grande, sucia y pobre. Realmente no me gustó, pero el problema real fue la noche. Gracias al brownie de blueberries casi no puedo dormir! Casi me deshidraté. Así es que estuve menos de 24 horas ahí, estoy en Singapur de nuevo y todo está OK ;)

BOTANICAL & ORCHID GARDENS

On Wednesday I weak up late, I was lazy… but I have a good excuse! I think that it was because I began to take the vaccine to prevent the malaria. I had breakfast with Coni and the ambassador and then slept again, until 12.00!

El miércoles me levanté tarde, estaba un poco floja… pero tengo una Buena excusa! Yo pienso que era porque empecé a tomar la vacuna para prevenir la malaria. Tomé desayuno con la Coni y la embajadora y me fui a dormir de nuevo, hasta las 12.00!

Coni began to work in a school, so I was alone and went to Botanical Garden. Yes, the same name that my favourite park in Sydney. Both are very beautiful, but the vegetation is different. Here is more tropical, because the weather is more humid and almost don’t have seasons. I was there 2 hours! It is huge!!! Even I couldn’t go run every area.
Paula, I remember every time how you love the trees and flowers, so I tried to take good pictures. The flowers are really wonderful, full color and very big. And you could see many butterflies too.

La Coni empezó a trabajar en el colgio, así es que estaba sola y fui al Jardín Botánico. Sí, el mismo nombre de mi parque favorito en Sydney. Los dos son preciosos, pero la vegetación es distinta. Acá es más tropical, porque el clima es más húmedo y casi no tienen estaciones. Estuve 2 horas! Es enorme!!! Incluso no pude recorrer todas partes. Paula, me acordaba cada momento como te gustan los árboles y flores, así es que traté de sacar buenas fotos. Las flores son realmente maravillosas, llenas de colores y grandes. Y puedes encontrar mariposas también.

Inside the Botanical Garden, there is a special sector called Orchid Garden. And guess what the main flower that you can see there is? Correct! It is the orchid. So smart!

Dentro del Jardín Botánico, hay un sector especial llamado Jardín de las Orquídeas. Y adivinen cuál es la principal flor que pueden ver ahí?... correcto! Es la orquídea. Muy inteligente!

The sculpture picture is especially to Lucía. I think that you will enjoy it, it is very cute!

La foto de la escultura es especialmente para la Lucía. Creo que la vas a disfrutar, es demasiado tierna!

When you saw the last picture, you can imagine how everything is here. All is perfect. The city is completely tidy.

Cuando vean la última foto, se pueden imaginar como es cada cosa acá. Todo es perfecto. La ciudad está completamente limpia.

SINGAPORE LIKE A PRINCESS

You can’t imagine how had been stay here! I am feeling like a princess. I have an elegant huge room in the ambassador home, with air conditioning, wireless internet and bath in suite!!!

No se pueden imaginar cómo ha sido estar acá! Me siento como una princesa. Tengo una pieza enorme y elegante en la casa de la embajadora, con aire acondicionado, internet wireless y baño en suite!!!

On Monday I arrived and fortunately Coni was waiting me at the Singapore airport. I was very happy… but few seconds later… I forgot everything… even my name… I only could felt the warm & wet weather. You can imagine my hair, it have its own life! All my curls reappeared again. Really, I don’t care, because I want summer!

El lunes llegué y por suerte la Coni me estaba esperando en el aeropuerto de Singapur. Yo estaba super feliz… pero pocos segundos después… se me olvidó todo… hasta mi nombre… sólo podía sentir el clima cálido y húmedo. Se pueden imaginar mi pelo, tiene vida propia! Todos mis rulos reaparecieron de nuevo. En verdad, no me importa, porque quiero verano!

Of course that night we talked a lot, she showed me my room and her best friends, the lizards. There are everywhere inside the house.

Por supuesto esa noche hablamos un montón, me mostró mi pieza y sus mejores amigos, las lagartijas. Están por todas partes dentro de la casa.

On Tuesday we travel around Singapore, little India, Arabic town, shoppings, we ate Morroco food and of course we finished drinking a coffee.

El martes recorrimos Singapur, “Little India”, el barrio árabe, shoppings, almorzamos comida marroquí y por supuesto terminamos tomando un café.

READY TO GO!

Now I am flying to Singapore. Of course, I don’t have internet here, so I am writing in word.doc and later I will publish the post. I hope Coni has internet, but most important, I hope that she remember to pick up me at the airport… Anyway, I have her address, so I can take a taxi.

Ahora estoy volando a Singapur. Por supuesto que no tengo Internet acá, así es que estoy escribiendo en word.doc y después publicaré el post. Espero que la Coni tenga Internet, pero más importante, espero que se acuerde de ir a buscarme al aeropuerto… en todo caso tengo su dirección, así es que puedo tomarme un taxi.

It is very strange think that I will stay in Asia in few hours. I left my dear Sydney… which was my home the last months. The weekend I changed my residence at Stanmore, to Maida & Sergio’s home at Kings Cross. I was great!!! On Saturday they helped me to change my staff. It was no easy!!! I had a lot of baggage, we looked like homeless in the train. But the most important thing was that they have my ex-heater now, so their flat is warm.
This night we finished drinking piscola (a typical Chilean drink) and talking about life… great conversation!

Es super raro pensar que voy a estar en Asia en unas pocas horas. Dejé mi querida Sydney… que fue mi hogar los últimos meses. El fin de semana cambié mi residencia en Stanmore, por la casa de la Maida y Sergio en Kings Cross. Estuvo genial!!! El sábado ellos me ayudaron a cambiar mis cosas. Y no fue fácil!!! Tenía un montón de equipaje, parecíamos “homeless” en el tren. Pero lo más importante es que tienen mi ex-estufa, así es que el departamento está calientito.
En la noche terminamos piscoleando (a mí no me gusta la piscola, pero la ocasión ameritaba) y hablando de la vida… excelente conversación!

On Sunday afternoon we went together to Botanical Garden, to walk. We wanted to take pictures to the bats flying, but it was impossible, because they were sleeping. Maybe they were koala bats… And in the evening I went to the Sydney Opera House to watch a dance competition, with some ex-EF mates. I liked it! The last night, finally I knew the Opera House inside.

El domingo en la tarde fuimos juntos a Botanical Garden, para caminar. Queríamos sacarle fotos a los murciélagos volando, pero fue imposible, porque estaban durmiendo. Tal vez eran murciélagos koala… y al atardecer fui al Sydney Opera House a ver una competencia de danza, con algunos ex-compañeros de EF. Me encantó! La última noche, finalmente conocí el Opera House por dentro.

Today the weather was beautiful. A sunny winter day, even a little warm! Sydney said me “see you” and now I begin a backpacker time. Completely different, but I am sure that will be wonderful too.

Hoy el clima estaba exquisito. Un soleado día de invierno, incluso un poquito cálido! Sydney me decía “hasta luego” y ahora empieza mi tiempo de mochilera. Totalmente distinto, pero estoy segura que va ser increíble también.

LAST DINNER & DANCING

On Thursday we went to a Spanish restaurant called “La Casa Asturiana”, because was the last week for me and 4 Spanish girls. I was afraid, because I chose the restaurant, I didn’t know the place before (I saw it in Lonely Planet) and there were a lot of Spanish people who had great expectation!!! Finally, it was a lovely dinner!.. but a chaos too. Imagine that we were like 40 people. When I saw the bill I couldn’t believe… A$*1.116!!! The more expensive bill that I have never seen!!!

El jueves fuimos a comer a un restaurant español llamado “La Casa Asturiana”, porque era la úlitma semana para mí y 4 españolas. Yo estaba asustada, porque yo elegí el restaurant, no lo conocía desde antes (lo busqué en el Lonely Planet) y había un montón de españoles que tenían mucha expectativas!!! Finalmente, fue una comida encantadora!... pero un caos también. Imagínense que éramos como 40 personas. Cuando vi la cuenta no lo podía creer… A$*1.116!!! la cuenta más cara que jamás he visto!!!

Then we went to “La Cita” a Colombian disco. We danced whole the night and had a lot of fun…

Después nos fuimos a “La Cita”, una discoteque colombiana. Bailamos toda la noche y lo pasamos chancho…

NEW CAMBRIDGE TRADITION...

Every day I had done a lot of things, but especially this week I wanted to do everything!
I will summarize, because I don’t want to bore you…

Cada día he estado haciendo un montón de cosas, especialmente esta semana quería hacerlo todo!!! Voy a resumir, porque no quiero que se aburran…

On Wednesday I went to have dinner at Mardones-Vergara home, so I came back to the residence at 10:00 or 10:30. Everything OK, but when I was in the entrance a girl told me that someone was waiting for me. I didn’t know why, but I suppose that was the manager of the residence, because he wanted to talk with me about the departure.

El miércoles fui a comer a la casa de los Mardones-Vergara, así es que volví a la residencia como a las 10:00 o 10:30. Todo bien, pero cuando estaba en la entrada una compañera me dice que alguien me estaba esperando. No sabía por qué, pero supuse que era el administrador de la residencia, porque quería hablar conmigo sobre el día de mi partida.

But surprise!!! People who were waiting for me were a couple of residence mates, Benji from Spain and Sebastian from Chile. They introduce a new tradition in our residence. People who leave “our home” need to take a special shower, with clothes, cold water and then a little bit of flour!!!

Pero sorpresa!!! Las personas que me estaban esperando eran un par de compañeros de residencia, Benji un español y Sebastián chileno. Ellos crearon una nueva tradición en nuestra residencia. Las personas que se van de “nuestra casa” tienen que darse una especial ducha, con ropa, agua fría y después un poco de harina!!!

I couldn’t believe! I was so tired and I must to take a new shower (hot water, soap and shampoo), dry my hair and washed my clothes… So finally I went bed so late. Idle people!

No podia creerlo! Estaba demasiado cansada y tuve que ducharme de Nuevo (agua caliente, jabón y shampoo), secarme el pelo y lavar la ropa… así es que al final me fui a acostar super tarde. Gente ociosa!

CHILEAN DAY!

The last Sunday was the great Chilean day, finally we organized the Chilean lunch. It was in a restaurant at Darling Harbour*, where we ate something like flintstone’s dishes, a huge piece of meat with chips. There were Maida & Sergio, Cata & husband and other office mate from her with his wife. It was so funny, because the Cata’s office mate was ex-university mate of Sergio and his wife know Maida for University too. So, they really didn’t meet, because they already met...

El domingo pasado fue el gran día chileno, finalmente organizamos el almuerzo chileno. Fue en un restaurant en Darling Harbour*, donde comimos algo que parecía un plato de los picapiedras, un enorme pedazo de carne con papas fritas. Estaban la Maida y Sergio, la Cata y su marido y un compañero de oficina de ella con su señora. Estuvo divertido, porque el compañero de oficina de la Cata fue compañero de Universidad de Sergio y su señora conocía a la Maida desde la Universidad también. Así es que en realidad no se conocieron, porque ya se conocían...

After the lunch I went with Maida and Sergio to Paddy’s Market, where you can buy different things, including food. Maida needed vegetables and fruit, and she loved this place, because it was considerably cheaper than supermarket!!! Sergio waited us while we chose the food and then we met again. But in this moment something strange was happened with him. He looked so bad, even he couldn’t speak, smile and almost he couldn’t walk.

Después del almuerzo fuimos con la Maida y Sergio a Paddy´s Market, donde puedes comprar diferentes cosas, incluyendo comida. La Maida necesitaba frutas y verduras, y le encantó el lugar, porque es considerablemente más barato que el supermercado!!! Sergio nos esperaba mientas que elegíamos la comida y después nos encontramos de nuevo. Pero en ese momento algo raro le había pasado. Se veía muy mal, incluso no podía hablar, sonreír y casi no podía caminar.

I was a little worried, but Maida told me “I know, he is hungry”. And she had the reason!!! We went to Circular Quay (the train station where is the Opera House) and bought ice-creams. Everything changed in one second… while Sergio ordered the ice-cream his face began to change… a smile appeared there, like a child. Look his happy face, how he enjoy it!!!

Yo estaba un poco preocupada, pero la Maida me dijo “yo sé, tiene hambre”. Y tenía la razón!!! Nos fuimos a Circular Quay (la estación de tren donde está el Opera House) y compramos helados. Todo cambió en un segundo… mientras Sergio pedía el helado su cara empezó a cambiar… una sonrisa apareció, como un niño. Miren su cara de felicidad, como lo disfrutó!!!

* Maida & Sergio had never been there, but I told her before that I went to dance in this place and she said nothing to me. I supposed that she knew it… She confused Darling Harbour with Sydney Harbour Bridge, so she though that I had danced on the Bridge!!!! Crazy friend!!!

* la Maida y Sergio nunca había ido ahí, pero yo le había contado que fui a bailar a ese lugar y no me dijo nada. Supuse que lo conocía… ella confundió Darling Harbour con Sydney Harbour Bridge, así es que pensaba que yo había bailado en el puente!!! Loca amiga!!!
